It finally happened. I broke my Pentax 6×7. To be fair, it broke itself, but then I stupidly took it past the point of no return.
I’ve written before about the very complicated film advance mechanism in these cameras eventually failing. Mine became increasingly difficult to use until it eventually just stopped advancing altogether. At that point, I should have sent it to a repair shop, but my tinkering itch got the best of me.
Needless to say, that was a bad idea.
I found a newer Pentax, a Pentax 67. Hopefully that camera will last a while before it starts having issues. The film advance lever is currently very smooth to operate. All hope is not lost for my original 6×7 but it’s now a more complicated job. While trying to remove parts I mangled the brass disk that sits under the lever. I have no idea how it’s supposed to be removed. Vice grips were not the answer.
If you like, you can read more about this issue on my other post at: Pentax 6×7 film advance lever issue.
Pics to come.
